Indian Fish Curry

Serves 4

  • 480g thick fish fillets cut into large chunks, skin and bones removed
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 onions
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2cm piece grated ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 3 tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garam masala
  • Lime Juice
  • 1 tablespoons chopped mint
  1. Heat oil in a saucepan over a low heat and fry the onion, stirring until soft and golden. Add the garlic, ginger, coriander, cumin and tumeric and stir for a few minutes until the spices are fragrant.
  2. Add the tomatoes and garam masala and cook over low heat until most of the liquid has evaporated.
  3. Add the fish, cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until cooked. Add a little water if necessary.  Stir through the lime juice and mint.
  4. Season to taste.

Made this with chicken because rest of family don't eat fish. It was really delicious. Served it with cauliflower rice. Might try this again next time with fish and halve the recipe.

I made this with diced chicken instead of fish, and it was absolutely DELISH! I left out the mint, and only used half the recommended coriander (i dont like the taste of it). Also added half a teaspoon of chilli for a bit of a kick. Teamed it up with the cauliflower rice and it was superb! The whole family loved it :)

I'm going to try this recipe tonight, but it does look as if there is some liquid missing from the recipe?

Hey, thanks for that, I will try the cauliflower rice. Did the fish, but didn't turn out as rich in color, probably the tomatoes I used. Also, it is very dry, not as saucy looking as the picture. But, thanks for all the great recipes, the shepherds pie with cauliflower topping is amazing.

desertgirl, why don't you give the Cauliflower Rice recipe a go. It's seriously delicious, we promise. You can find the recipe here: You could also certainly play around with different types of ingredients in Cauliflower Rice if you wanted to experiment with some variations. Good luck - we'd love to hear what you think of the Fish Curry and/or the Cauliflower Rice.

Can anyone suggest what to have as a side: Obviously rice out of the question.

Tried this last night with salmon and was very impressed. The best bit is that the base for the curry could be used with chicken/beef/lamb too.
